Copy trading lets you automatically replicate the positions of a selected strategy inside your own account. It lowers the barrier for people who lack time or experience, but it does not remove risk, and understanding the difference matters.

How the mirroring works

When the strategy you follow opens or closes a position, a proportional position is opened or closed in your account through the broker's platform. You remain the account holder throughout.

You can typically start and stop copying, and the sizing is scaled to your capital rather than copied one to one.

The risks that copying does not remove

A strategy that performed well can stop working, and copiers experience the same drawdowns as the original. Past performance never guarantees future results.

Copying several strategies that trade the same instruments can concentrate rather than diversify your risk, so review what you are actually following.

Staying in control

Copy trading is a tool, not a delegation of responsibility. Set your own limits, monitor performance and be ready to stop if a strategy drifts from what you signed up for.

Treat the capital you allocate to copying with the same risk rules you would apply to your own trades.

Puntos clave

  • Copying mirrors positions into your account, scaled to your capital.
  • You keep control and can stop at any time.
  • Copying does not remove risk or guarantee results.
  • Trading leveraged products carries a high level of risk and can result in the loss of all invested capital. This article is educational and is not investment advice.
