Most traders do not fail because they lack a strategy. They fail because they cannot follow one consistently once fear and greed enter the picture. Psychology is not a soft extra; it is the mechanism that either lets your edge play out or destroys it.

The two emotions that cost the most

Fear closes winning trades too early and freezes you out of good setups after a loss. Greed pushes size too high and holds losers in the hope of a turn.

Neither can be eliminated, but both can be managed by making decisions in advance, when you are calm, rather than in the moment.

Rules that survive contact with the market

Written rules for entries, exits and size turn trading into a repeatable process. When the plan is on paper, the in the moment job is simply to follow it.

A trading journal that records not just trades but your state of mind exposes the patterns behind your worst decisions.

Detaching from any single trade

A single trade is one sample from a large distribution. Judging yourself on it is like judging a coin as unfair after one flip.

Focus on executing the process well over many trades; the results follow from the process, not the other way around.

Puntos clave

  • Fear and greed sabotage good strategies more than bad entries do.
  • Decide rules while calm, then execute them mechanically.
  • Judge yourself on process over many trades, not on one result.
  • Trading leveraged products carries a high level of risk and can result in the loss of all invested capital. This article is educational and is not investment advice.
